LC-60LE847U Specifications

This middle tier 2012 edge lit LED from Sharp has an upgraded Smart TV Central suite, while including Sharp's patented Quattron quad-color technology which adds the Yellow pixel to RGB. This very large and surprisingly thin 60" LED from Sharp has almost all the features Sharp has to put forth in 2012 except their newest panel drive system which only the top end models receive. 240Hz AquoMotion, 3D Ready, and a Vyper drive option for gaming are just some of the features. Sharp's next generation X-Gen panel in this LCD helps to deliver a very good light flow through to the screen surface. That's one of the purposes of this type of top layer LCD panel, which has more control over sections of the twisting crystals to enable better light. It does not however help black levels and this is an area that could use some improvement. Side angle viewing is another area we will be stringently testing in 2012 on this TV.

Picture and Viewing Features

Sharp LE847 LED TV
The strong contrast is shown in this picture on the 60LE847U

The LE847U did a nice job with fast motion images, processing them smoothly with little jerky judder effects. Black levels are decent but could be stronger while side angle viewing is typical of most LED TVs and somewhat weak from the sides.

240Hz

Sharp does a good job with its AquoMotion 240Hz feature to reduce jerky motion artifacts when processing the signal. It's not an easy feature to get right and one we often criticize in other manufacturers do to causing some unnatural effects.

3D Viewing

With the large sizes available in the 847 series, 3D can really immerse you in whatever you are watching. The 847 uses active 3D so you get full 1080p to each eye and the picture doesn't sacrifice any detail.

Side Angle Viewing

Sharp LC60LE847

Side Angle Viewing is not a strong point in any LED/LCD television but with each new model year we see some improvement. After you get about 25 degrees off center the contrast begins to degrade on the LC-60LE847U.

Appearance

The design of this huge TV is very attractive with an expensive looking and feeling black metal brushed aluminum frame which does a good job of not reflecting light. The side framing is .7" while the TV is just over an inch in depth.

Internet Applications and Connectivity

Sharp's Smart Central TV gives you up to 3 unique profiles to allow you to access your own personal profile preferences. It's a separation tool to help you navigate the Smart TV Internet options and save your individual settings.

Though they do not have as many quirky apps for Internet offerings as some of their competitions, Sharp's Smart TV Internet offerings include your standard popular choices like Vudu HD Movies, Netlix, Facebook, and Twitter to name a few.
