Vizio R3D470SV

47" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED TV with Smart TV

by Robert Wiley, Senior Editor

Vizio's top of line in LED back lit LCD televisions for 2012 is the R series. This 47" model has a 120Hz, 1080p passive 3D LCD panel with LED back lighting and local dimming. They also have built in WiFi and Vizio Internet Apps with the addition of Google TV.

Picture and Viewing Features

The R3D470SV has good performance with HD sources delivering bright colors and improved contrast and black levels over the 2011 Razor LED models. For the price of this 65" the picture quality is better than you'd probably expect.

The 3D feature in this TV is passive 3D rather active 3D which yields good color rendition and possibly less strain on the eyes. Passive 3D does not have as much depth or intensity however as active.

Vizio uses passive 3D on their 3D HDTVs, this has the advantage of very inexpensive 3D glasses and for some viewers, more comfort and less eye strain. Passive 3D doesn't have the same detail as active 3D but in our tests some viewers preferred it.

Internet Applications and Connectivity

The R3D470SV is an HDTV with Vizio Internet Apps (V.I.A.), a service that gives users instant access to full web content. There's no need for a computer or set-top box with V.I.A.; instead, users can pull up such favorite programs as Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Hulu Plus, Flickr, Pandora, Rhapsody, VUDU, and Yahoo! TV Widgets with just the touch of a button on their remote.

This V.I.A. HDTV also lets users browse the Yahoo! Connected TV Store, which offers over 180 TV apps, some of them free, from popular brands like Amazon, Fandango, QVC, USA Today, Pandora, Showtime, and more. TV apps let users access more than just movies—they also include sports, news, social networking sites, photos, music, and more. People who visit https://connectedtv.yahoo.com can learn more about the Yahoo! Connected TV Store. Also, a VAP430 Stream Player lets users pull up all sorts of web content in addition to whatever they have saved on their computer hard drives.
