This smaller size line of LED backlit LCD Televisions begins circulation in North America in March or April of 2012. The 32EH4000 has all the same features as the ES5000 series - just in smaller sizes with a super thin .4" black bezel frame and 60Hz processing.

Picture Quality Rating: 7.7/10

Though it does not have some of the higher end features such as 240Hz processing or Micro dimming technology you will be impressed by the picture quality on this smaller LED Television just like we are. Viewing quality is enhanced by the strong LED backlights and light throughput that they afford although the picture is much dimmer than large, premium LED TVs from Samsung. Areas of the screen where content sunlight hits a picture background or image are brighter and more saturated than with LCD CCFL TVs. Colors are not as saturated as plasma or some other LED manufacturers screens. The backlight can wash them out so we recommend a moderated backlight setting which can be found in the picture controls menu. All in all, you will not need a higher Hz rate or premium viewing features on this small of a TV. It would be incredibly difficult to notice the improvement due to the 32" size screen.

Side Angle Viewing

For an edge lit LED television the side angle viewing performance on the 32EH4000 is pretty good, contrast begins to fade around 30 degrees which is a good result for an edge lit LED television.

The EH4000 series televisions offer LED edge lighting in small sizes.

Black Levels

Black performance on the EH4000 is a strong point, blacks are dark and inky and show improvement over 2011 models. The largest improvment is in detail in dark scenes, an area where the black could be over powering in previous models.

Features Rating: 7.5/10

The remote control is large, basic, is not backlit, but contains sufficient controls - especially for this size of TV. There is a nifty "tools" key that allows from quick selection of frequently used controls. The onscreen overlay menu is very complete with some surprising inclusions such as Advanced Picture settings.

Connect Share Movie

The EH4000 series does not include Samsung's Smart TV Internet option but does have Movie Connect Share hookup. This allows you to be able to hook up computer (and therefore some premium movie services), camera, or camcorder connection through USB input the the TV without need for any external processing boxes. It gives you some flexibility to the world outside your TV.

Appearance and Design

It somewhat surprised us that this TV came in at 3.6” in depth. That's pretty deep these days. The framing bezel is also pretty wide at over an inch. It's not a great looking TV but is in keeping with other 32” TV offerings out there.

Bang for the Buck: 8.3/10

At around $325 the 32EH4000 is going to be a very good seller this year – especially in “light” of the fact that it has LED edge-lit backlighting rather than the traditional CCFL. Most of the competitors have traditional CCFL like the Sony KDL32BX330 and the Toshiba 32C120U. The Lgs as well. Pricing is around the same for these other models. The Connect Share USB input adds little value as well.
