Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR9

Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR9 Review

The KDL-46XBR9 series is actually the replacement for the XBR6 Bravia TVs from 2008/2009. Confusingly, the XBR8 series is Sony's LED LCD with local dimming and the highest feature set and price point of the Sony TVs on the market today. Upgrades in the XBR9 from the XBR6 are 240Hz rate compared with the previous 120Hz rate and an upgrade in the Bravia Video processing Engine to 3rd edition. Aesthetics were also changed to give the TV a streamlined look. We took a hard look at the picture quality performance and features of this new XBR. See our results below.

Strengths:
- Great looking TV with thin frame/bezel
- Internet Connectivity helps future proofing
- 240Hz feature does not distort background picture information.
- Tons of picture setting feature options

Weaknesses:
- While cutting down on motion lag, the 240Hz feature still has some judder effect present- espectially with side to side movement
- Did not calibrate especially well.
- Anti Glare screen hurts side angle viewing contrast and color accuracy
- Contrast and color saturation is a little weak
- Up Conversion from 480i average
- Price, high for features and picture quality
- HQV processor testing surprisingly average

PICTURE QUALITY RATING: 87.5/100

FEATURES RATING: 91/100

VALUE RATING: 77/100

OVERALL RATING: 85.75/100
