LG 47LGX Review Page 2

  Overview Review Specifications Calibration

VALUE RATING: 85/100

Price Considerations: At close to $3000 this LCD competes with the Sony 46XBR8 which is priced much higher and the Samsung LN46A850 which is a little lower. The 47LGX has an interesting and unusual feature set including the limiting anti glare scree, the art deco appearance (not to mention that it is a mere 1.8" in depth), and the 120Hz processing which is great for sports but not recommended in our opinion for film content. The Clear Voice audio technology works well, as does the Fresh Contrast to increase depth. Truth is, if you are looking seriously at this wonderfully unusual LCD TV then its probably going to be your choice as there is not much else out there with which to compare it.

OVERALL RATING: 86.75/100

Calibrations and Contrast Ratio Measurement:

Calibration: The 47LGX calibrated almost perfectly to D6500K due to a 10 point IRE adjustment option (helping greatly in calibration). While balance initially had a strong leaning toward blue. This initial problem has been worked out by using the warm picture setting combined with lowering the blue ratio on the white balance scale. Raising and lowering the backlight setting has a minimal impact to color information and contrast ration, and should be used to control brightness for varying room light conditions. Follow the following calibration settings to achieve D6500 at medium ambient room light.

Contrast Ratio: Using an ANSI checkerboard pattern contrast measured an underwhelming 79, much of which we feel is due to the anti glare screen on the LCD.
