LG 55LS4600 Review
LG 55LS4600 Review and Ratings
55-inch Edge Lit LED TV, 1080p
By Robert Wiley
Picture Quality Rating: 8.2/10
The picture quality on this LED from LG is in the middle of the pack for 2012/early 2013. LG has enabled the 55LS4600 with some good picture setting features for such a value oriented TV such as the 120Hz panel for better fast action performance.
The picture modes in this TV include the Expert ISF 1 & 2 options reserved normally for higher end TVs. This gives a lot of flexibility over the picture settings and there is a full 10-point white balance adjustment.
This shot from the BluRay of Oceans Eleven of the 55LS4600 shows somewhat subdued colors, but not bad for the price!
Color presentation was not the most saturated we have seen this year, nor is the picture depth exceptional, but it's a good solid picture quality which will show HD material very well.
Features Rating: 8/10
This LED edge lit TV is especially useful for those that plan on using it for brightly lit rooms and who do not care about extra features such as Internet options, 3D compatibility, or the Magic Remote. It has a basic remote control that functions easily with the very thorough menu system. The features the LS4600 does have are well done and solid in performance. It just doesnt have many extras.
Appearance
The 55LS4600 has your basic looks as opposed to the high end models with the Cinema Screen design with almost no bezel. The frame on this TV is black with a little over an inch in width. Even with the sort of standard design the depth is still super thin at only 1.4” which is somewhat surprising as one of the competing models with this TV is the Samsung UN55EH6000 which has a hefty depth of 3.7”.
Menu and Remote
Menu and remote function in the LS4600 series is very thorough and you have options such as 6 aspect ratios to choose from, and 8 picture setting options including the intelligent sensor option. The menu is easy to access and understand.
Inputs
There are 3 HDMI inputs and 2 component inputs as well as a USB input to give you plenty of connectivity in this LED television.
Value Rating: 8.4/10
Solid, but not amazing performance is what the LG 55LS4600 will yield. Feature-wise this is a basic LED TV with lots of picture function features (picture modes including ISF expert settings), however without many of the major upgrade features such as Smart TV, 3D, Magic remote etc. Pricing is around $1000 to $1200 from most dealers. Thorough analysis is required for the Value rating for this TV as that is what it is striving to be – a value play for viewing only. This TV sells for $200 less than a comparable Samsung which is the best equivalent. But compared to comparable plasma TVs it has a hard time competing because of the more robust feature sets.
Overall Rating: 8.4/10
