Vizio VF550XVT

55" Vizio 1080p LCD TV

LCD TV Buying Guide Commentary

Will this newest Vizio LCD TV peform to Vizio's outlook? This new offering from Vizio features 5 HDMI inputs, a gaming input port and SRS TruSurround for better audio experience. It also contains the new TruVolume which purportedly helps to eliminate volume spikes during television commercials. We all know how annoying this can be so watch for a complete review and we'll let you know if this feature actually works.

This LCD TV features the controversial 120Hz processing that Vizio calls Smooth Motion. As we've noted with other TVs with 120Hz processing it's best not to use this feature when viewing film based content. Vizio lists dynamic contrast ratio at 50,000:1. It does not give a figure for native contrast ratio so this is sure to be a weakness of the TV since some manufacturers list dynamic contrast at 1M:1. Vizio has increased processing response time to 5ms with a 10-bit data input-panel. We'll see how that response time measures in a true test of motion lag. This unit will not be available until January 2009 at a price of around $2000. One of the biggest questions we have is whether the TV has an anti glare screen and if so how much it decreases contrast and black levels – especially at angles.

Vizio VF550XVT LCD HDTV

VIZIO gets in the game with the new 55" XVT Series 120Hz (model VF550XVT1A), 1080p LCD HDTV featuring Smooth Motion Video(TM) Technology, which delivers flawless video frame after frame. As the Official HDTV of pro football player LaDainian Tomlinson, the newest XVT model delivers high performance with 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 9 total High Definition Inputs, and the latest in audio technology from SRS Labs.

The faster refresh rate of 120Hz is twice the speed of other LCDs (60Hz), VIZIO's Smooth Motion Video(TM) Technology eliminates motion blur from fast- action movie scenes. VIZIO's advanced noise reduction removes noise and artifacts caused by signal compression from cable and satellite providers. This latest XVT model displays 1.7 billion colors using a 10-bit data input panel, with a super fast 5ms response time. The VF550XVT1A is also equipped with an advanced polarizer for less reflectivity, it meets the Energy Star 3.0 criteria, and in Home Mode actually achieves an additional 15% savings making it extremely eco-friendly.

The unit is outfitted with 9 total High Definition Inputs, that include five HDMI inputs. It also includes VIZIO's HD Game Port(TM) with HD Inputs conveniently located on the side of the TV for fast connection of camcorders and game consoles. The rear panel also provides component, composite, S-video and VGA connections along with digital and analog audio jacks. VIZIO has also incorporated SRS TruSurround HD(TM) for a more immersive home theater experience and TruVolume(TM) technology that eliminates unwanted volume spikes when you channel surf and watch television commercials. The VIZIO 55" VXT LCD HDTV will be available in January 2009, selling for an MSRP of only $1999.99.
