LCD TV Buying Guide Commentary
Apart from the numerous LED backlit LCD offerings from Sharp at CES they also announced some new traditional CFL backlit LCDs like the D78 series. These 1080p LCDs features Sharp's Fine Motion 120Hz processing and dedication to energy efficient design. Sharp's proprietary Optical Picture Control automatically adjusts the backlighting to match the room brightness. From our experience with these types of features auto adjusting backlights change a good picture calibration but if you're more energy than picture conscious this feature should provide you with some savings on your energy bill over running the backlight on a high power setting.
The D78 series features multiple HDMI inputs, dual 1080p component inputs and a PC input so the D78 series can double as a PC monitor. The LC-40D78UN will be available in March for around $900.
