Picture Quality

TruMotion 120Hz

The Trumotion 120Hz features does its job, it reduces motion blur in action scenes and judder in scenes with slow panning, however, it can introduce a problem that we call the "soap opera effect" where it makes movie sets look cheap and can make film look like video. We recommend turning this feature down to a very low setting or off for movies. With sports programming the Trumotion can clear up blurring in fast scenes so it is worth leaving on.

Side Angle Viewing

LG 65LM6200The 47LM6200 differs from the LM6700 series in one respect, it doesn't have the new, ultra-thin bezel design. It is a 1080p, 120Hz LED edge lit LCD panel with Cinema 3D passive 3D and all the Smart TV features of the step up model. If the features interest you but you would like to sacrifice some aesthetics for a lower price then the 47LM6200 will definitely be of interest to you.

LG's LED televisions have had good off angle viewing performance in the past and the 2012 models are no exception. Compared to many LED edge lit models the LM6200 still looks good at angles around 35 degrees off center where the other will start to have the contrast degrade at 20-25 degrees.

Appearance and Design

The LG47LM6200 47” screen does not have the sleek new Cinema Screen design that the higher end LG LEDs for 2012 have. Instead it hs a 1.2” wide bezel frame and around a 2.2” depth of the panel- which is still slim enough to call thin and marvel at while hanging on the wall. For the difference in price to not have the .2” frame you might think of this as a bargain. If appearance and aesthetics are absolutely your top priority in a TV this may not be the one for you. But if you want most of the top end features and can be satisfied with a good looking but not great looking TV then this may be your piece.

Internet Applications and Connectivity

LG Smart TV AppsLG's Smart TV suite is also available on the 47LM6200 and includes the more than 1000 Apps the company now has along with the typical premium content channels some paid and some unpaid like Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, MLB.tv, Facebook and Twitter. It's overall a very complete solution and enables lots of play time with unusual little Apps that users may or may not find worth the 99 cents to $2.99 that they usually cost.

Magic Wand Remote

Included with the 47LM6200 is LG's innovative Magic Remote, also called the Magic Wand Remote. This secondary remotes operates using motion control. To interact with your TV you point the remote at the screen and move a crosshair with you wrist to select items on the menus or in the Smart TV suite. We think it's a fantastic little gadget and are glad to see it being included in more of LG's series in 2012.
