Calibration Notes: Right off the assembly line, the Sony Bravia 55XBR8 tested fairly close to D6500 when using the Cinema picture mode setting – making this LED TV easy to calibrate compared to many. The Gamma needed improvement/adjustment. After calibration, the XBR8 tracked very accurately toD6500 and Gamma improved closer to a standard of 2.2. Measured contrast using the checkerboard test pattern showed an average of 43.25 foot lamberts on the white and 0.19 foot lamberts on the black – calculating to a 230 to 1 contrast ratio. The user controls available on the Sony were intuitive but lengthy when adjusting white balance.
