Remote Control

Neither remote control is backlit – such a minor thing to ask for. The Samsung remote is big, clunky and unattractive for the most part with a dull gray finish. However, it does contain critical control keys for Tools – a shortcut to prominent menus and P. Size and P. Mode buttons for quick changing of picture sizing and the various picture modes such as dynamic, standard or movie.

The Vizio remote by contrast is significantly better looking, but neglectful in its inclusion of important keys. It's unforgivable to make a remote control with no aspect ratio sizing button (as in 4:3, 16:9, screen fit etc..). There is also no direct picture mode key for easy changing of those modes. The input key is difficult to find its so small.

Winner: Samsung LN32D450

Little Extras

The Samsung D450 table stand is a pain to assemble requiring 8 screws that are almost ill suited to the task. It's difficult to tighten the screws enough to secure the stand. The manual is also skimpy at best. The Vizio E321VL while requiring assembly of the stand is easier to handle. Vizio also includes a screwdriver in the box. The Vizio manual is large, complete and colorful with glossy pages.

Advantage: Vizio

Price/Value

The Vizio E321VL ($349) is usually priced slightly below the LN32D450 ($379) depending on where you look. The TVs really have similar features and value offerings. The picture qualities are not very different either – with Vizio getting the overall picture performance nod there. But given the slight cost difference, our preference is the Samsung simply because the design aesthetics are far superior. That and the audio performance throw us in Samsung's corner. These two considerations matter over time.
